Radius Door Construction

Laser-crafts will develop and fabricate cores for various projects, such as curved (or radius) doors, unusual torsion box frames for any need from curved shoji screens to concrete forms.

Curved cores

A torsion box frame, with "skins" on the top and bottom, is the way to create light-weight forms of almost any shape and size.

Here the laser cuts the core layers from multi-ply.

Making radius doors is greatly enhanced with the use of laser technology. The core parts will be stacked over a tenon and glued.  Then a layer of poplar will be bent and glued to each face to complete the curved door.

This picture shows the dry assembled curved rails and the mortised stiles.

Here, the skins are being glued onto the rails. Two layers of 1/8" bending plywood are glued to each surface.

The four finished rails are placed on the center stile.

Both doors, dry assembled for fit and finish.

The panels are laid up in a vacuum press and placed in the frame awaiting trim.
